Kerry Gant, Teacher, Restorative Justice Practitioner

Kerry Gant is a restorative justice practitioner, educator, and community advocate dedicated to transforming systems that harm families and communities. Her work centers on Restorative Justice, equity, and disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline by humanizing the experiences of those most impacted by incarceration and systemic inequity.

As Co-Founder of The Breaking Down Barriers Project, Kerry amplifies the voices of directly impacted individuals and works to advance meaningful reforms within New York’s criminal legal and education systems. She brings deep expertise in trauma-informed pedagogy, restorative practices, and equity-driven leadership, supporting schools, organizations, and public agencies in building cultures rooted in accountability, healing, and belonging rather than punishment.

Kerry has served in leadership roles across the region, including as Vice Chair of the Monroe County Alliance for the Transformation of Policing and as a board member and advocate with the Center for Community Alternatives. She regularly facilitates restorative processes, community dialogues, and systems-change initiatives that repair harm and strengthen relationships within institutions and neighborhoods alike.

Grounded in both professional practice and lived experience, Kerry is committed to helping communities move beyond carceral approaches toward restorative, rehabilitative models that affirm the dignity, worth, and potential of every person.
