FILMMAKER and MUSICIAN
Steve Rosenthal founded Caramax Studio in 1995. He has served as producer of narrative, documentary, and institutional films as well TV commercials. He is a 3D animator, cinematographer, editor, digital colorist, sound recorder, and UAS aerial photographer, FAA licensed pilot, and FAA licensed Remote Pilot for drone footage.
His most recent documentary, "It Is Up To Us" was produced with Stephen McKinley Henderson and received funding from New York State Council on the Arts and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. It was awarded Best Social Impact Documentary 2025 by the Atlanta Spotlight Documentary Film Festival. His end-of-life options documentary "Go Gently" has been viewed more than 200,000 on Amazon Prime.
As a founding member of the Amherst Saxophone Quartet (ASQ), Steve has performed numerous times at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Chautauqua Institution, NBC Tonight Show, CBS Sunday Morning, plus radio programs St. Paul Sunday, Performance Today, All Things Considered and Voice of America broadcasts. He has managed and played in tours across the United States, Japan, Bermuda, and the British Virgin Islands and performed as soloist with ASQ and orchestras in Buffalo, Rochester, Grand Rapids, Springfield, Fresno, Tupelo, and others. The ASQ has served as Artists in Residence at SUNY/Buffalo and faculty members at University at Buffalo and Daemen College. Performances can be heard on MCA Records, MHS, Mark Records, Innova Records, and New World Records.
Steve’s awards and appointments include serving as a National Endowment for the Arts panelist, board member and National Conference Co-Chair for Chamber Music America, and on the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County. He has also been an artistic consultant for Episcopal Charities of WNY, founding board member of the Williamsville Concert Association, on the Jewish Center of Buffalo Music Committee, and was selected as Buffalo 40 Leaders Under Forty.
His commitment to service is shown by nearly 40 years serving on national and community boards such as Spark Filmmakers Collaborative, Empire West Hockey League, American Composers Forum, and Parkside Federal Credit Union.
