Humboldt Parkway
documentary
150 years ago, Buffalo was considered one of the most beautiful and best planned cities in the world, thanks to Frederick Law Olmstead's concept of "a City within a Park". In the 1960s the construction of the Kensington Expressway destroyed our beautiful Parkway system, and, in fact, the healthy flow of people through Western New York. The Expressway has exceeded its life expectancy and is now crumbling. Too many of us in Metro Buffalo know woefully little of this history and the options for the future design of our region. Even worse, much of what people think they know is wrong.
We now have a once in a century opportunity to put our city on a path to greatness. An informed citizenry can help ensure that the right decisions are made to create a healthier, more equitable, more livable Western New York, and a return to civic beauty that once again could be the envy of the planet.
